The history of Andorra goes back a long time. The state of Andorra was formed in 1278 after the signature of the Pareatjes, but traces of human settlement have been found dating from the Palaeolithic. Tradition holds that Emperor Charles the Great founded Andorra in the year 805. It is a country with ancient traditions, whose cultural heritage offers many opportunities to its visitors: the medieval excavation site in La Margineda, museums presenting the daily life in the country at the beginning of the last century, and the Romanesque trail, with more than 40 churches nestled at the heart of the valleys. Another excellent way to discover the country is to get on board the touristic bus which travels to all the must-see sights in Andorra.
